Summary:
The Scurlock photographic studio was a fixture in the Shaw area of Washington, D.C. from 1911 to 1994, and encompassed two generations of photographers, Addison N. Scurlock (1883-1964) and his sons George H. (1920- 2005) and Robert S. (1916-1994). Subseries 4.10 consists of orders placed at the Scurlock Studio. Scope and Contents:
Copy negative of an engraving of published slave poet Phillis Wheatley as illustrated by Scipio Moorhead in the frontispiece to her book 'Poems on Various Subjects'. No ink on negative, no edge imprint, no Scurlock number. This glass plate copy negative is broken and taped to a second glass plate. A section of acetate film sheet is taped to fold over the glass plate. This sheet contains only a section of new coccine to lighten the area around the subject's head.
