This accession consists of records documenting the various professional activities of David H. DeVorkin, curator in the Department of Space Science and Exploration, later the Department of Space History and then the Division of Space History, including fellow evaluations, manuscript editing, and research, as well as professional correspondence. Also included are files related to reorganization of the museum and department and the search for a new chairman. DeVorkin also served as Chairman of the Department of Space Science and Exploration, 1985-1986. Materials include correspondence, memoranda, reports, notes, fellowship evaluations and work products, policy and planning documents, grant proposals, scripts and script approval coversheets, satellite images, interview transcripts, brochures, and exhibition materials.

This accession consists of records that document collections management, research, and professional activities of curators in the Division of the History of Technology, with earlier records dating back to when the division was known as the Division of Extractive Industries, the Division of Manufacturing, the Division of Agriculture and Mining, the Division of Agriculture and Forest Products, the Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Division of Manufactures and Heavy Industries, and the Division of Industrial Cooperation at the National Museum of American History, which, prior to 1980, was known as the National Museum of History and Technology and the Museum of History and Technology, respectively. Records that date to when the museum was part of the United States National Museum document curatorial activities in the Division of Mineral Technology, as well as the related sections of Organic Chemistry and Manufacturers.

Staff represented in these records include curators G. Terry Sharrer, John T. Schlebecker, Frederick L. Lewton, Howard Irving Chapelle, Pete Daniel, Paula J. Johnson, Carl Weaver Mitman, and Chester Garfield Gilbert; Philip W. Bishop, Curator, and Chairman of the Department of Arts and Manufacturers; associate curators John Nathan Hoffman, Charles O. Houston, Edward C. Kendall, and Samuel S. Wyer; museum specialists Robert G. Walther and Thomas R. Wessel; aids Aida M. Doyle, Section of Organic Chemistry, and Mrs. E. W. This accession consists of the records of Margaret Brown Klapthor, former Scientific Aide in the Civil Section of the Division of History, United States National Museum (USNM), 1944-1946; Assistant Curator of the Section of Civil History, in the Division of History, USNM, 1947-1948; Assistant Curator, 1949-1953, and Associate Curator, 1954-1956, of the Division of Civil History, USNM; and Associate Curator, 1957-1970, Curator, 1971-1984, and Curator Emeritus, 1985-1994, of the Division of Political History, National Museum of American History.

Materials consist of Klapthor's correspondence and memoranda, most of which pertains to her publications and work on the First Ladies Collection of dresses (or Collection of White House Gowns); research notes and manuscripts for the publication China for the President's House; and subject files on the First Ladies, as well as furniture and china porcelain ware at the White House. This accession primarily consists of audiotape recordings of the radio series Philatelic Dialogue, later known as Philatelic Conversations, whereby individuals important in philatelics were interviewed. Among those interviewed include Carl H. Scheele, David Lidman, and Stevan Dohanos. Also included are drawings of an Abbott-Downing Company Concord stagecoach from 1848 that was donated to the United States National Museum. Materials include audiotape recordings and drawings.

This accession consists of records maintained by Lisa Stevens, Collections Manager and, later, Curator, documenting public support of the pandas. The majority of the records consist of letters, cards, postcards, posters, and artwork sent by the public, especially schoolchildren, to the pandas or their keepers. Some of these materials were displayed in the Panda House. Records also consist of letters requesting information about the pandas; visitor surveys commenting at length on the pandas; letters expressing dissatisfaction with a visit to see the pandas or with a particular policy related to the pandas; photographs sent by the public of pandas at other zoos; letters expressing gratitude or support of a particular issue related to the pandas; and newspaper clippings related about the pandas. The response letter from the zoo is sometimes included.
