Since 1968, the Anacostia Community Museum's staff photographers have created a visual record of life in contemporary urban communities, including documentary photography of residents and their activities, neighborhood events and landmarks, foodways, festivals, and public spaces.
Photographs in this collection were taken by Susana Raab who has worked at the Anacostia Community Museum from 2010-2019 and also maintains a personal practice.

This series contain images of the 38th annual LatinoFest in Baltimore, MD. The event was sponsored by EBLO.org; an education-based Latino outreach organization, which has been active in the community since 1980. The festival took place at Patterson Park on June 23 and 24. Other celebrations included in this series are the Chinese Lunary New Year Parade, and the Baltimore Caribbean Carnival. In addition, there are research photographs taken in Baltimore, MD for the museum's "Gateways/Portales" exhibition of businesses, murals (including those0 honoring slain Baltimorean Freddie Gray, Eastern Avenue, Highlandtown, Greek and Latinx neighborhoods. Images documenting food trucks outside Maryland Avenue, SW in DC are also present in this series.
Views of historic Anacostia and the neighborhoods of Adams Morgan and Columbia Heights comprise the majority of public spaces documented.
Events photographed in this grouping include the Goodman League Basketball team, a demonstration of lion dancing techniques by members of the Wong People Lin Team at the Chinatown Community Cultural Center in DC, and the Channing Phillips Home opening, at Shaw Metro Station in Washington, DC.

This series include portraits from various communities. There are portraits of Wanda Henderson of Wanda's on Seventh Hair Salon near Howard University in Washington, DC. Her hair salon has been a fixture in the Shaw neighborhood for over thirty years. Other portraits include parishioners at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Easter Sunday. Also included, are portraits of worshippers at Masjid Muhammad mosque in DC. In addition, there are photographs of Walter Pierce Cemetery Commemoration, a recognition of a historic African American and Quaker burial ground located underneath Walter Pierce Park in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, DC.
Additionally, this series contains demolition shots of old homes on Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave., SE, and houses along Maple View Place SE. A housing protest organized by the National Alliance of Human and Urban Development Tenants, EmpowerDC, National Coalition for the Homeless, We Are Family DC, Positive Force DC, People's Budget Campaign, and the Coalition for Human Needs are present in this group, as well as various public spaces documented for the museum's "A Right to the City" exhibition. Also documented also is an annual Good Friday procession hosted by Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

This series contains images of convenience stores, restaurants and urban carry-outs in Washington, DC's Wards 7 and 8. There are also photographs of Barry Farm Public Housing demolition and specific homes at the Barry Farm Dwellings before destruction. In addition, the annual Martin Luther King, Jr., parade is documented beginning with a Peace Walk from Anacostia Metro Station on Martin Luther King, Jr., Ave SE and finishing at Good Hope Road, SE. The Anacostia Community Museum and many social and service organizations participated in the parade. Additionally, the Funk parade is included in this series. The parade started at the historic Howard Theater and continued through the U Street Corridor to the Lincoln Theater. The event honors Washington, DC funk music, and includes images of DC Mayor Muriel Bowser, the Batala drummers, the Phelps Ace Academy Marching Band, Lion Dancers and Carnival dancers. Another parade documented in this group is the Capitals National Parade, held after the Washington Capitals Hockey Team won the Stanley Cup.
