Artists files; exhibition files; project files; and video and audio recordings regarding the Koplin Gallery and its successor Koplin Del Rio Gallery. Artists files include Sandow Birk, Theophilius Brown, Robert Colescott, James Doolin, Gisele Freund, D. J. Hall, Rico Lebrun, Annie Leibovitz, Kerry James Marshall, Lezley Saar, Kent Twitchell and Elyn Zimmerman. Exhibition files on group shows include "A British View: 4 Artists," "New Italian Mannerists," "Six Los Angeles Muralists," among others. Also included are files on the Los Angeles Art Fair (1986-1987) and Arts LA (1989 and 1993). Video and audio recordings consist of 11 VHS videotapes and 6 sound cassettes featuring artists from the galleries, including Ida Applebroog, Sarah Perry, Robert Colescott, Gisele Freund, Lezley Saar, and others.
Biographical / Historical:
Art gallery; Culver City, Calif.; est. 1982. Koplin Gallery opened in West Hollywood, Calif. under the direction of Martha Koplin. In 1996, Eleana Del Rio became business partners with Koplin. In 2002, at Koplin's retirement, the name changed to Koplin Del Rio Gallery.
Provenance:
Donated 2007 and 2009 by Eleana Del Rio, gallery director and Martha Koplin, retired Koplin Gallery director. Additions are expected.

This series consists primarily of exhibition catalogs and artist books that are seemingly unrelated to Kardon's curatorial work, and also includes press clippings from magazines and newspapers, exhibition announcements and posters, and pamphlets from the College Art Association of America's annual meeting (1983-1984). Names include Martha Haslanger, Pati Hill, Maria Nordman, Larie Simmons, Richard Kostelanetz, Jean-Pierre Armeaux, George Griffin, Athena Tacha, Stu Horn, Robert Barry, Lucas Sumaras, Hundert Wasser, Dotty Attie, Laurie Anderson, and Ida Applebroog. Also found in this series is a 1905 copy of Elbert Hubbard's publication, The Philistine.
