Descriptive Entry:
This accession consists of records which document the research, planning, and execution of the traveling exhibition, Native Words, Native Warriors, which honors
and documents the role of Native American servicemen who used their indigenous languages on behalf of the United States military during World War I and World War II. This
traveling exhibition was a collaborative effort between the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES)
and will be on tour from 2006-2011. NMAI staff represented in this collection include exhibition curator, George P. Horse Capture; researcher, Tim Jones; Keevin Lewis; and
Katherine Krile. Materials include correspondence and memoranda; surveys; exhibition scripts; research materials; interview transcripts; release forms; interview recordings;
presentations; DAT audiotapes; audiocassettes; VHS videotapes; BetacamSP videotapes; digital versatile discs; black-and-white photographs and negatives; color photographs
and negatives; brochures; pamphlets; newsletters; and clippings. Some materials are in electronic format.
