Although the negative sleeve indicates that White Horse was on the Shenandoah River [in West Virginia] the only White Horse that can be clearly identified is on the Potomac River, just south of its junction at Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, with the Shenandoah. While the Potomac's waters technically belong to the State of Maryland, this image has been placed in VA159 since it, like other Virginia images in the White Collection, was processed by the same photography studio (Jas. S. Cummins, Baltimore, Maryland).
