This record unit consists primarily of copies of telegrams sent by officials of the Smithsonian Institution and the bureaus under its administration, 1958-1963. Occasional
incoming telegrams are also found. The telegrams mostly concern procurement, personnel, and other administrative matters, but occasionally document the distribution of specimens,
negotiations for collections, and field work. Apparently, the Office of the Registrar was in charge of maintaining copies of outgoing telegrams sent by the Smithsonian Institution.
