Descriptive Entry:
The Office of Telecommunications (OTC) produced nine short films on the role of towboats on the Mississippi River for the Hall of Maritime Enterprise in the National Museum of American History. This footage was used to produce nine short interactive videodiscs to provide visitors the opportunity to learn the history, technology, and commercial importance of towboats on the Mississippi River.

Materials include Master Betacam transfers of original camera rolls, 16 mm original camera negatives, 1/4 inch sound recordings, cut shows and a few window dubs where original components could not be found.

Some materials may be footage of an exhibition or public program. In a few cases, neither the title of the video nor the exhibition is known. Materials include videotapes, film, magnetic tape, and audiotapes. Some materials are in electronic format. Smithsonian Productions was previously known as Smithsonian Press/Smithsonian Productions, 1996-1998, and the Office of Telecommunications, 1976-1996.
