The papers of photographer Renate Ponsold Motherwell measure 29.0 linear feet and date from circa 1951-circa 2005. Included are photographs, slides and negatives of Robert Motherwell, his work and exhibitions; and images of Louis Armstrong, Joseph Albers, Raphael Alberti, Elise Asher, James Baldwin, Brassai, Fritz Bultman, Irving Blum, Jim Bird, Mark Rothko and Thornton Wilder, among others. Also included are photographs of women and children. Additional material consists of exhibition files, printed material and correspondence.
Biographical / Historical:
Renate Ponsold Motherwell (1935-2023) was a photographer in Greenwich, Conn. and Provincetown, Mass. She was married to artist Robert Motherwell.

Donated in 2023 by the Estate of Renate Ponsold Motherwell via Lise Motherwell, estate representative.
