The series on Ponape includes administrative papers and notes on history (which include the German and Japanese occupations) taken from several previous researchers in the Carolines. Also included are the Fischers' own notes from their various periods of residency there during the 1950s and 1970s as well as manuscripts and papers. The
manuscripts section contains not only papers related specifically to Ponape but also later papers on such issues as the origins, spread, distribution and comparative relationships of language as well as a discussion of art and culture. There are also papers by other people, including Saul H. Riesenberg's "The Cultural Position of Ponape in Oceania." The notes cover such topics as folklore, kinship, and language. Other notes include a preliminary look at ruins and potential archeology sites. Also in the series are Rorschach and TAT tests carried out in schools in 1951 and 1952 on Ponape and nearby islands. These tests have been restricted (Boxes 38-42).
More documents related to Ponape can be found in Series I: Correspondence, Series II: Truk, Series VI: Academic Work, Series VII: Photographs, Series VIII: Microfilm, and Series IX: Sound Recordings.
