Reel 1110: Auction catalog of 220 Herzog paintings, M. Thomas and Sons Galleries, Philadelphia, Penn., December 5-8, 1899. Illustrated, not priced.
Biographical / Historical:
Painter, landscape painter; born in Germany, arrived in U.S. in 1869. Studied and exhibited in Germany and Paris, later in Philadelphia and New York areas. Queen Victoria was one of his patrons.
Provenance:
The lender, Don Lewis, Jr., gathered these materials for his master's thesis at the University of Virginia, and in preparation for a Herzog exhibition organized by Chapellier Galleries and Auslew Gallery, where Lewis was assistant director.
Restrictions:
The Archives of American art does not own the original papers. Use is limited to the microfilm copy.
