Photographs include albums, photographs, and negatives depicting Oakley, views of Cogslea, her family and friends, travel, exhibition events, and of her studio and works of art. Individuals of note include Edith Emerson, Elizabeth Shippen Green, Jessie Willcox Smith. Among the photographers are Elizabeth Buehrmann, Helen Dodd, J. M. Elliot, Haeseler, Philadelphia, Clayton Stone Harris, T. S. Jamison, Florence Maynard, Olive M. Potts, Eva Watson Schutze, and Mathilde Weil.
Arrangement:
Materials are organized by document type and subject. Glass plate negatives are housed separately and closed to researchers.

Biographical materials include address books, award certificates, curriculum vitae, calendars, identification and membership cards, memorabilia, genealogical research, and Cogslea estate guest/visitor books. The guest books include the dates, signatures, and salutations of visitors to Oakley's studios, including the shared studio space of Violet Oakley, Elizabeth Shippen Green, and Jessie Willcox Smith during the 1910s-1920s. In addition to monthly calendars, there are Line-a-Day calendars for 1924, 1929, 1935-1939, 1941 and daybook calendars for 1937, 1941, 1946.
Arrangement:
The majority of materials are arranged by document type. The latter part of the series groups calendars, studio guest books, and other documents relating to Oakley's extended family.

Notes and writings consist of essays, event schedules, lectures and speeches, performances, literary writings, publication drafts, writings by others, and substantial chronological and miscellaneous writings. There are also project files containing writings and notes related to 16 of her major artworks, including her interest in historic figures ranging from William Penn to Jane Addams, her commissioned work for the Vassar Alumni and Charlton Yarnell houses, her work on the League of Nations portfolio, and writings related to her murals for the Pennsylvania Capitol Senate, Supreme Court, and Governor's reception chambers. These include multiple drafts and gallery proofs for her publications The Holy Experiment, The Law Triumphant, and The Geneva Drawings.
