Edited film: In the twelfth century when they fled north from Kyoto and established themselves at the town of Hiraisumi, the Fugiwara family brought a sophisticated culture with them. Today, traces of former glory remain in the ruins of Moetzuji Temple and its landscape pond, at Chusonji Temple with its Konjikido (Golden Hall) finished in gold leaf and its Buddhist statues and relics, and in the Noh dramas which are performed annually on an outdoor stage by a cast of priests and farmers.
