Biographical / Historical:
The first scheduled service using a rotary-winged aircraft was Eastern Airlines' 1939 autogiro mail service from Philadelphia to Camden, NJ. By 1952, there were three companies—Los Angeles Airways, Helicopter Air Services of Chicago, and New York Airways—designated as "helicopter carriers," providing mail service to their local cities. By the 1960s, helicopter airlines had expanded to passenger service.
