Scope and Contents:
Edited film: Traces the rise of the Mao Tse-tung and the communists during the Civil War against Chiang Kai-shek and the Chinese Nationalists from 1946-1949; describes communist China''s successful five year plan, followed by the disastrous Great Leap Forward." Uses films made by Swiss photographer Fernand Gigon inside Communist China to examine changes that have occurred under the Communist regime in the past few years, the relationship of China to the Soviet Union and other nations, and Red China's growing strength and threat to world peace.
