This accession consists of the central files of the Office of Equal Employment and Minority Affairs (OEEMA) for fiscal years 1990 and 1991, although some records date
from 1988. They include correspondence and memoranda exchanged between the OEEMA director and staff and Smithsonian Institution (SI) management and bureaus, other government
agencies, and private individuals regarding equal employment issues and personnel policies. Records also contain discrimination complaint files; SI audience and staff profiles;
and OEEMA office staff work plans and position descriptions. Files also document to some extent the development of the concept of the African-American Museum project. In addition,
records contain affirmative action employment plans and accomplishment reports submitted to OEEMA by different SI offices and bureaus; and EEO reports submitted by OEEMA to
Congress and SI management.

This accession consists of records that document the programs and administrative activities of the Office of Equal Employment and Minority Affairs (OEEMA) from 1991
to 1995. They consist largely of reports on activities, projects, and meetings that were prepared for OEEMA and Smithsonian Institution management. Also included are budget,
correspondence, and memoranda files. A series of files from fiscal year 1995 contains documentation of specific OEEMA programs, such as equal opportunity training courses,
and POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) training courses.

This accession primarily consists of program records which document lecture series and seminars; family and school programs; workshops; museum and gallery tours; and
special events. Materials include the correspondence, memoranda, and notes of Dorothy Dunn, Program Coordinator for Schools; planning information on program content and logistics;
evaluations by program participants; agreements; contact sheets; and itineraries.
The records also consist of audience development records created by Susan Yelavich, Program Coordinator, and Dierdre A. Scott, Program Coordinator for Audience Development,
which document the Museum's efforts to accommodate visitors with disabilities and increase awareness of the Museum in minority communities. Materials include correspondence,
memoranda, and notes; grant funding information; press releases; reports; information about "Access: The First Residential Universal Design Conference" (October 1994) and
the Diversity Dialogue meeting (March 1993); and proposals.
