This accession consists of records that document the work of the Under Secretary, Constance Berry Newman, mostly during the Calendar Year 1993 and part of 1992. The
records pertain to the activities of Smithsonian Institution offices and bureaus; international relations; and significant projects such as the establishment of the National
Museum of the American Indian, National Postal Museum, National African American Museum, and Institute of the Americas. Also includes correspondence and memoranda between
the Under Secretary and various Assistant Secretaries, Museum Directors, and heads of different bureaus.
Additional records include audit reports, confidential files, and memoranda from the Office of the General Counsel; budgetary reports; articles from newspapers and journals
