UNMICROFILMED (6.4 ft.): Correspondence concerning political ramifications of print shows in Prague, 1939, and Venice, 1940, arrangements for the first exchange show with the Royal British Society of Etchers and Painters, including letters from Malcom Osborne, 1953, and business matters; presidential reports by John Taylor Arms; biographical sketches of Society members; photographs and slides; scrapbooks; and printed material, including reproductions of art, brochures, exhibition announcements, form letters to members, newsletters, 1974-1992, exhibition catalogs for Annual and other exhibitions, 1944-1992, and printed material on special events.
Biographical / Historical:
Art society; New York, N.Y. Est. 1915. Founded in cooperation with the Brooklyn Museum as The Brooklyn Society of Etchers. In 1921, the organization moved to Manhattan and changed its name to The Society of American Etchers; in 1947, it expanded to include lithographers and woodcutters, with a subsequent change of name to The Society of American Etchers, Gravers, Lithographers and Woodcutters. Since 1951 known as The Society of American Graphic Artists.
Provenance:
Material on reels N68-107 to N68-112 lent for microfilming 1969 by Society of American Graphic Artists. Unmicrofilmed material donated 1979 and 1995 by the Society.
