Scope and Contents:
Report of a cruise in the U. S. Steamer Wolcott of the Revenue Marine Service, June-July, 1875 in the waters of Alaska and British Columbia. A chart, referred to on page 1 of the letter is not present: "I send a chart published by the English Admiralty of that portion of the Northwest Coast from Fort Simpson, British Columbia to Cross Sound, Alaska, on which I have indicated the route of the Wolcott and the various Indian villages we visited."
There is a manuscript copy and a printed copy. The latter appeared in the Port Townsend Weekly Argus, Supplement, September 4 and 11, 1827. There are a few significant differences between the two.
