Jimmy Ernst was an educator and lecturer in addition to his career as an artist. He was a professor in the Design Department, Brooklyn College from 1951 to 1977; presented lectures on art in the United States and Europe; and and gave commencement speeches to the graduates of Silvermine College of Art in 1969 and Long Island University in 1982. Documentation includes correspondence, three videos, some ephemera, notes, and drafts of speeches.

This series consists of Ernst's writings on a variety of topics including the community of artists, writers, and others who lived in East Hampton, New York during the 20th century; art culture in the U.S. and abroad; tributes to Jackson Pollack and others; philosophy; and writings on the topic of his father. There are also writings authored by Jimmy Ernst's wife, Edith Dallas Bauman Brody Ernst. Her writing files include diary excerpts regarding Jimmy Ernst's estate and artwork after his death, her reaction to Max's funeral, and her efforts to publish a book on Jimmy Ernst in the late 1990s. Also present are essays, M.A. theses, and student reviews covering Jimmy Ernst's life and work.
