The collection includes artist files on Theodoros Stamos and Rudolf Bauer containing correspondence, business records, printed materials, photographs, and digital recordings of interviews with Stamos; business files for the Hinterreiter Foundation and Guggenheim Museum; and five exhibition guest books.
Scope and Contents:
The PTE Fine Arts records measure 0.4 linear feet and 0.25 gigabytes, and date from 1953 to 2007. The collection includes artist files on Theodoros Stamos and Rudolf Bauer containing correspondence, business records, printed materials, photographs, and digital recordings of interviews with Stamos; business files for the Hinterreiter Foundation and Guggenheim Museum; and five exhibition guest books.
Arrangement:
Due to the small size of this collection the papers are arranged as one series.
Historical Note:
PTE Fine Arts (est. 1987) is a private art gallery in New York, New York, specializing in Post War and Contemporary painting, sculpture, and works on paper, founded by Takis Efstathiou (1944- ). Efstathiou was director of the Tchernov Gallery in New York before opening the Ericson Gallery in 1977. Theodoros Stamos, Rudolf Bauer, Hans Hinterreiter, Hilla Rebay, and William Baziotes were among the modern artists that exhibited at the gallery. In 1987, Efstathiou began dealing under the business name PTE Fine Arts. Efstathiou's sons, Paul and Eric, joined the business in 2001.

The PTE Fine Arts records were donated in 2008 by Eric Efstathiou of PTE Fine Arts, New York, N.Y.

Scope and Contents:
The series includes artist files for Theodoros Stamos and Rudolf Bauer containing correspondence, business records, printed materials, and photographs. Files for Stamos include letters from Monika Kinley and Milton Avery, digital recordings of interviews with Stamos conducted by Efsthathiou and Robert Bianichi, and photographs of Stamos and his artwork. The file for the Hinterreiter Foundation contains a checklist of artwork by Hans Hinterreiter, correspondence regarding an exhibition of artwork by Hinterreiter and Max Bill in Tokyo in 1998, and a few other records. The file for the Guggenheim Museum contains sales, consignment, and deaccession records for Bauer and Hilla Rebay. Additionally, the series contains five guest books from exhibitions held at Ericson Gallery from the late 1970s to early 1980s.

Biographical / Historical:
Takis Efstathiou (1944- ) is a New York City art dealer for the work of Ynez Johnston. He was director of Tchernov Gallery in 1973, and, in 1977, opened the Ericson gallery on 74th Street and Madison Avenue, before becoming a private dealer in 1986 working under the name PTE Fine Arts. Ynez Johnston is a printmaker, painter, sculptor, and instructor who lives and works in Southern California.
