Summary:
The Conservation and Research Center (CRC) was established on June 22, 1975, when the General Services Administration transferred over 3,000 acres of land in Front Royal, Virginia, to the Smithsonian Institution. The purpose of CRC is to conduct research on and develop breeding programs for endangered species. Christen M. Wemmer was appointed Curator-in-Charge in 1975.
