Scope and Contents:
Inscription on flyleaf: "I / Journal of / Dr. L.H. Baekeland / Yonkers, NY [sic] / July 1, 1913 / to March 11, 1914." The diary details Baekeland's daily activities. He writes often of his visits and discussions, and the subjects of correspondence he has written and received. It sheds light on the use and distance of travel by automobile in the early twentieth century. In the notes, Baekeland explains increasing time spent in the laboratory at the end of 1913 into 1914.

The Cole Steel Furniture [sic] Co....licenced the right to distribute and market the system in the U.S., and sold it under the Cole brand. As with most dictation systems of the day, it came in two versions, the "Cole Dictator" for recording, which sold at $220 retail, and a slightly different version for transcribing, sold at $185." quote from e-mail received from David Morton (dmorton@brainchip.net)on 8/8/05 --JR Also, a 1958 catalog from the distributor Paramount Equipment Co. of New York - its back page advertises the 1958 Cole Portable typewriter for $94.50 (it's endorsed by "top-flight" reporters John Cameron Swayze, Quentin Reynolds and Kenneth Banghart.)
