Summary:
This collection consists of a letter, in a commemorative postal cover, written by Ernest Frederick Fearn on board the USS Arlington while waiting for splashdown of Apollo 10. The collection also contains a color photograph of Fearn, in uniform, with his wife, Donna.
Scope and Contents:
This collection consists of a letter written by Ernest Frederick Fearn on board the USS Arlington while waiting for splashdown of Apollo 10. In the letter, written to his nephews, Fearn describes recovery plans. The letter was mailed in a commemorative postal cover from the U.S. Navy Recovery Force which is also included in the collection. Finally, the collection contains a color photograph, measuring approximately 1.75 by 3.25 inches, of Fearn in uniform with his wife, Donna.

Biographical / Historical:
Apollo 10 (May 18 to May 26, 1969) was the first flight of a complete, crewed Apollo spacecraft to operate around the moon and served as a "dress rehearsal" for the lunar landing. Apollo 10 was also responsible for the first live color TV transmissions to Earth from space. The Apollo 10 Command Module, named Charlie Brown by the crew, splashed down in the Pacific Ocean. The primary recovery ship was the USS Princeton, and the USS Arlington was designated the primary landing area communications relay ship. Ernest Frederick Fearn was a Senior Chief Electronics Technician - ETCS aboard the USS Arlington during the Apollo 10 flight recovery mission.

Summary:
A New York bookseller, Warshaw assembled this collection over nearly fifty years. The Warshaw Collection of Business Americana: Television forms part of the Warshaw Collection of Business Americana, Subseries 1.1: Subject Categories. The Subject Categories subseries is divided into 470 subject categories based on those created by Mr. Warshaw. These subject categories include topical subjects, types or forms of material, people, organizations, historical events, and other categories. Scope and Contents:
Contains promotional material, advertisements, and publications related to both the manufacture and use of television equipment, parts, and program. Includes major brands and well-known broadcasters. The Technology folder has several B&W photos depicting towers and manufacturing. A few books are present covering general "age of television" to more technical and engineering aspects. No extensive runs or complete records exist for any single company, brand, and no particular depth is present for any singular subtopic though some publications may provide general and historical overviews of a person, company, or facet of industry.

Provenance:
Television is a portion of the Business Ephemera Series of the Warshaw Collection of Business Americana, Accession AC0060 purchased from Isadore Warshaw in 1967. Warshaw continued to accumulate similar material until his death, which was donated in 1971 by his widow, Augusta. For a period after acquisition, related materials from other sources (of mixed provenance) were added to the collection so there may be content produced or published after Warshaw's death in 1969. This practice has since ceased.

Scope and Contents:
Two notebooks (scrapbooks) of clippings, correspondence, original United States patents, briefs on hearings of patent interference suits, drawings of color television tubes, photographs of Geer and his model of the receiving tube, licensing agreement proposal on the sale of patent rights to the (Bob) Hope Enterprises, and biographical information.
Biographical / Historical:
Assistant Professor of Physics, University of Southern California, 1943-1968. In 1944, he was granted the basic patent in color television for his tri-color television device which enabled the practical production of color images by television receiving apparatus. He held fourteen additional patents on the television.
