Records of the New York and Paris locations of Zabriskie Gallery, including artist and subject files, financial records, and business records.
Artist files contain correspondence with artists, galleries and collectors, photographs of artists and their work, inventories, resumes, exhibition catalogs, press releases, and clippings. Gallery correspondence is between the Paris and New York galleries and with artists, dealers, clients, and other galleries. Financial records includes artists account statements, administrative files, Zabriskie transaction records, sales books, and price lists. Also included are signed guest books, floor plans, and inventory cards.
Also found are blueprints and line drawings by Richard Stankiewicz, with copies of designs and information relating to Stankiewicz's sculpture and studio building (0.2 linear ft.).
Biographical / Historical:
Art gallery, New York City and Paris (Galerie Zabriskie) owned by Virginia Zabriskie. The New York gallery opened in 1954; Galerie Zabriskie in Paris officially opened in January 1977, but work began there the previous year and closed in 1998.

The records of the Nancy Drysdale Gallery measure 9.0 linear feet and span the years 1971 to 1996. The bulk of the collection comprises artist files that document the gallery's relations with 67 artists, many of whom were represented by the gallery.

This collection measures 9.0 linear feet and dates from 1971 to 1996. The bulk of the collection comprises artist files that document the gallery's relationships with 67 artists, many of whom were represented, or whose work was handled by, the gallery. In addition to artist files, the collection contains exhibition files, printed material, and publishers files.
Arrangement:
The collection is arranged as four series reflecting the original arrangement imposed by the Gallery.

Series 1: Group Exhibition Files, 1978-1994 (Box 1, 0.5 linear ft.)

Series 2: Fine Art Publishers Files, 1972-1995 (Boxes 1-2, 1.5 linear ft.)

Series 3: Artist Files, 1971-1996 (Boxes 2-9, 7 linear ft.)

Series 4: Miscellaneous Printed Material, 1993-1994 (Box 9, 1 folder)
Historical Note:
When colleague Max Protech moved to New York City in 1976, his gallery at 2151 P Street, N.W., Washington, D.C., became the Protech-McIntosh Gallery under his successor, Cincinnati dealer, Nancy McIntosh Drysdale. Drysdale then moved the gallery to 406 7th Street, N.W., and changed the name to the McIntosh/Drysdale Gallery. Several years later, Drysdale vacated the 7th Street address and operated as a private dealer before opening the Nancy Drysdale Gallery at 2103 O Street, N.W., in 1991.

The records of the Nancy Drysdale Gallery were donated to the Archives of American Art by Nancy Drysdale in 1997.

The Nancy Drysdale Gallery records are owned by the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution. Literary rights as possessed by the donor have been dedicated to public use for research, study, and scholarship. The collection is subject to all copyright laws.

The papers of photographer William Christenberry measure 6.3 linear feet and date from 1960-2018. Included are project and subject files; professional correspondence; printed material concerning Christenberry's exhibitions and photography; and audio visual material including VHS tapes and audio recordings on CD of interviews, lectures, family reunions, and travel. The bulk of VHS tapes feature footage from the documentary William A. Christenberry: A Portrait (Produced by Stanley Staniski, 1997).

Video recordings of 3 day conference on Southern art and artists and the narrative tradition shared with Southern writers. Included are sessions: "Visual Language: The Southern Birthright," moderated by William Dunlap, with Jo Harvey Allen, Harry Crews, Fannie Flagg, Mary Lynn Kotz and Jonathan Williams; "The Home Turf: A Cultivated Mythology," Mitchell Kahan, moderator, with William Christenberry, Frank Fleming, Ke Francis, Jane Livingston and James Surls; "Expatriates: the Southern Artist 'Out There'", Marcia Tucker, moderator, with John Alexander, Terry Allen, James Hill and Ed McGowin; footage of a reception for the exhibition "Southern Narrative"; and a musical performance by Terry Allen.
Also included are a brochure from the conference and 3 sound cassettes of a panel discussion held at the 1979 College Art Association meeting in Washington, D.C. relating to the first Southern Rim Conference in 1976. Particpants include John Alexander, John Canaday, William Christenberry, Larry Edwards, Jim Roche, and James Surls, with William Dunlap as moderator.
Biographical / Historical:
The 1983 conference was organized by Birmingham-Southern College art professor Linda Burgess, and was funded by NEA and the Committee for the Humanities in Alabama. It was a follow-up to the first Southern Rim Conference held in October 1976 in Valle Crucis, N.C.
