Historical Note:
Walter R. Spofford (1908-1995) was a neuroanatomist and a member of the medical faculties at Cornell University, Vanderbilt University, and the State University of
New York at Syracuse. He was also interested in raptorial birds and conducted early experiments in biochemical taxonomy, the forerunner of studies on DNA fingerprinting.
