Scope and Contents:
This collection consists of 89 obsolete training and orientation films used by Northwest Airlines, Inc. and 87 obsolete technical manuals for aircraft in the Northwest fleet. The technical manuals include material on the following types of aircraft: Boeing 707, 727, 747; Douglas DC-9; and McDonnell Douglas DC-10 and MD-80.
Biographical / Historical:
Northwest Airways was incorporated on August 1, 1926 and in 1934 the name of the company was changed to Northwest Airlines. Northwest Airlines has a transcontinental domestic route system as well as having the distinction of being one of the largest American carriers to the Pacific with a strong route structure to Tokyo and other points in the Far East.

Scope and Contents:
This collection of documentation accompanied the donation of the actual aircraft to the National Air and Space Museum in 1992. Included here is memorabilia from the last flight of the B727-100 (such as receipts, records, and stationery), as well as compliance records, AMIS monthly histories, cabin maintenance forms, historical records, identification and routing tags, redelivery records, technical data cards, weight and balance records, non-routine maintenance and regular maintenance records from 12 different U.S. airports, an 8-binder 'Wiring Diagram Manual,' and microfilm and microfiche of various United Airlines documents.
Biographical / Historical:
The Boeing B727-100 is a version of the Boeing 727, which was designed in June 1959. A major innovation of the 727 was the choice of a rear-engined layout, with two Pratt & Whitney JT8D turbofan engines mounted on the sides of the rear fuselage and a third at the base of the T-tail assembly. The 727 had an identical upper fuselage to the 707 and 720 series, with many parts interchangeable. The 727-100 version of the 727 provided standard transport for up to 131 passengers.

Additional material: Memorabilia in this collection, i.e. playing cards, magazines, etc., was transferred to the National Air and Space Museum Aeronautics Division.

This collection consisted of miscellaneous material, including annual reports, for companies that were later acquired by Republic Airlines.
Scope and Contents:
The collection consisted of miscellaneous material, including annual reports for all companies that eventually came under Republic Airlines: route maps, photographs of various aircraft used, and publicity stickers, stamps, and notices. Press releases and newsletters are held for some of the companies. Much of the collection of press releases, progress reports, and information packets centers on the Boeing 727 series, the Boeing 747SP series, and the McDonnell Douglas DC-9 series. This collection also includes Bonanza Air Lines negatives.

Note: The digital images in this finding aid were repurposed from scans made by an outside contractor for a commercial product and may show irregular cropping and orientation in addition to color variations resulting from damage to and deterioration of the original objects.
Biographical / Historical:
This collection consist of various materials belonging to a group of airlines that eventually came under Republic Airlines. The product of mergers, this airline found its start in the small, postwar feeder airlines of the Mid- and Southwest. The nine small companies that became Republic include: West Coast Airlines, Wisconsin Central Airlines, North Central Airlines, Southwest Airways, Southern Airways, Bonanza Air Lines, Pacific Air Lines, Air West, and finally, Hughes Air West.

Summary:
This collection consists of documentation for Boeing's postwar commercial aircraft programs.
Scope and Contents:
The material in this collection consists of marketing brochures, booklets, and pamphlets comprising promotional and engineering presentations for all Boeing commercial jet aircraft from the 707 to the 767, as well as the Boeing SST proposal, and several projects from Boeing's Vertol helicopter division. The collection also includes general market research studies and lectures by Boeing Vice President John E. Steiner.
Arrangement:
The collection is arranged into the following six series:

Biographical/Historical note:
The Boeing Airplane Company was established in 1916 in Seattle, WA. For a short period (1928-34) Boeing was a subsidiary of the United Aircraft and Transport Company (now United Technologies Corporation) but left, with Stearman Aircraft and Boeing Aircraft of Canada, to form a new company under the Boeing name. In 1961 Boeing reorganized and changed its name to The Boeing Company to reflect the broader interests of the company, which contained commercial aircraft, military aircraft, and general aircraft production facilities, as well as rotorcraft and aerospace production components. In 1952 Boeing decided to begin work on a large jet transport, initially designated the Model 367-80, to convince competitors that the project was a reengined C-97 (Model 367) reciprocating engine transport. The "Dash 80" rolled out on 15 May 1954 and first flew 15 July 1954. The first production aircraft, designated Model 707, was delivered to Pan American Airlines in August 1958, followed by others for civil and military (as C-135) use. The 720, a derivative of the 707, followed, as did the 727 short/medium range aircraft (design work from June 1959), 737 short range aircraft (announced February 1965), 747 wide-body long-range aircraft (announced April 1966), 757 advanced short-medium range aircraft (announced early 1978), 767 advanced wide-body medium range aircraft (announced early 1978). Boeing also participated in the abortive United States Supersonic Transport (SST) program of 1963-71.
