Photograph album depicting Helen Louise Schneider as a contestant in various New Jersey baby beauty contests.
Content Description:
Photograph album documenting Helen Louise Schneider as a contestant in various New Jersey baby beauty contests. There are some newspaper clippings about these contests. The album also contains photographs from other places the family lived and visited, including Detroit, Florida (mainly St. Petersburg), Philadelphia, and Virginia. Many of these photos include other family members and friends the family had. There are photographs of the family's pets and Helen in costume. There are certificates from schools Helen attended and a class photo from Longstreth School in Philadelphia in 1933. It also includes loose photographs of her later childhood and one of her wedding. The photographs are captioned for the most part.

Biographical / Historical:
Helen Louise Schneider was born in 1922, in Philadelphia, to Frank and Florence Schneider who ran a yarn shop on the boardwalk in Ocean City, New Jersey. Helen competed in various baby contests in New Jersey. She married George Rauch (1917-2000). She later worked as a clerk for a retail florist. She died in 1997 in Delaware co, Pennsylvania.

Collection documents aBlack Elks' Labor Day parade in Philadelphia in September 1957.
Content Description:
Thirty photographs (3.5" x Order of the Elks of the World (known colloquially as the Blacks Elks). The images were taken on the corner of Spruce and Broad Streets in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Featured are various Elk Club chapters, drill teams, marching bands, dignitaries in convertibles, and banners identifying marching groups from New York, Brooklyn, and New Jersey.
