CDR copy Tape Info: The following tapes were recorded at the 1962 University of California - Berkeley Folk Festival. Many other tapes in the CFCH Archives were recorded at the same festival. FW-ASCH-7RR-1845, recorded on 6/27, 1962, is reel 1 of a "Folksong Concert" featuring Bessie Jones, of the Georgia Sea Islands. She sings children's songs, spirituals and work songs. A song list in the tape box lists five additional songs she presumably sang after the tape ended.

CDR copy Tape Info: The following tapes were recorded at the 1962 University of California - Berkeley Folk Festival. FW-ASCH-7RR-4038 is Reel 2 of Workshop 6, recorded on 6/30/1962. Bessie Jones is featured, presenting a free-ranging narrative, including song excerpts, information about her youth, and many humorous stories relating to life on plantations during slavery. Because the presentation is interwoven into a seamless whole, I haven't attempted to break the material up into tracks, which would be a distraction. Song excerpts include: You oughta Get Tired, Old Grey Mule, Sandaree, Way Go Lily and Way Down Yonder. The stories and reminiscences could have been given titles of: Egg Cracking, Gambling, My God Your God, Praying to the Devil, Lazy Enoch, and Raising vs. training.
