Scope and Contents:
Dr. Gabrielle Tayac, a historian at the National Museum of the American Indian, discussed the history and culture of the Nacotchtank Indians who lived within the boundaries of present-day Washington, D.C., and the Anacostia area. She also spoke of the Algonquian languages as well as the destruction of the Nacotchtank people, language, and culture.
Interview created in conjunction with the Anacostia Community Museum's 40th Anniversary Oral History Project and the exhibition, 'East of the River: Continuity and Change.' Dated 20070504
