Biographical / Historical:
In 1953, Dr. Igor Bensen, an immigrant from the USSR where he had been chief research engineer of the Kaman Aircraft Corporation, established the Bensen Aircraft Corporation in Raleigh, North Carolina. He initially planned to produce commercial helicopters, but switched to the private market when he realized that the relative safety of rotary craft would be attractive to private pilots. His first aircraft was the Bensen B-8 Gyro-Glider, which was unpowered and could be flown without a pilot's license in the United States. It could be built at home from a kit that an aspiring pilot would purchase from the company or could be purchased already assembled.

Scope and Contents:
This collection consists of two photographs and approximately fifty drawings of the Bushby MM-1 Midget Mustang.
Biographical / Historical:
The Bushby MM-1 Midget Mustang was designed by Piper chief engineer David Long as a Goodyear Midget Racer. It was intended to be a post World War II sport plane. There have been four Midget Mustang Oshkosh EAA Grand Champions.

Scope and Contents:
This collection consists of manufacturing manuals, catalogs, and newsletters relating to the Rutan Model 33 Vari-Eze. The collection was donated with an original, unbuilt, Vari-Eze aircraft kit.
Biographical / Historical:
The Vari-Eze was designed by Burt Rutan/Rutan Aircraft Factory (RAF) in 1974. Two prototypes of the Vari-Eze, Model 31, led to production of the Vari-Eze Model 33, which was offered in kit form to amateur/home aircraft builders. Rutan built the Vari-Eze to prove that the canard configuration could be more efficient than conventional designs. The Vari-Eze was awarded the 'outstanding new design,' and also set a world's distance record. The aircraft seats two adults, suitcases and fuel for up to a 800 mile range. The design allows it to be parked in a small space as both the wings and canard are removable and the nose landing gear retracts into the fuselage for easy storage.
