This scrapbook was compiled by Nathan Blumberg who served with the 27th Aero Squadron. It contains photographs of members of the squadron, pictures of the graves of some of the pilots killed in action, pictures of planes (including Spad XIII, Donrad AR.2, Nieuport 28, and De Havilland DH-4) used in World War I and of France during the war. It also includes poems, newspaper articles on the squadron and on Lt. Luke and memorabilia of the squadron's reunions in 1966 and 1973. There are also newspaper clippings about Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker.
Biographical / Historical:
The 27th Aero Squadron, 1st Pursuit Group, was chartered on 23 June 1917 and served in France during World War I. After training, the squadron embarked for Europe on 25 January 1918 and served at Toul, France. Among those serving in the 27th Aero Squadron was Lt. Frank Luke, Jr., who was killed in action and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.

This collection consists of twelve photographs (two are two prints of the same image) collected by Seth Cook of the Army Air Corps between 1918-1923. The following aircraft are featured: de Havilland (Airco) D.H.4; Curtiss R-6 Army Racer; and Curtiss JN-4 Jenny. The following aviation personalities are included: James H. "Jimmy" Doolittle; Lester Maitland; Oakley Kelly; John Macready; Orville Wright; and Seth Cook. Several of the photographs were taken at or near Rockwell Field, San Diego, California.

This collection was donated by the son of Jack Scaturro who worked at Roosevelt Field during the 1920s and 1930s. Mr. Scaturro took snapshots of the facility's workers, friends and transient pilots, most notably the flamboyant Roscoe Turner and his aircraft the Gilmore Lion. The collection consists of 17 photos of the following aircraft: Aeronca C-1; Burnelli GX-3; Corsair O2U-1; DH-4; Fleet PT-6; Sikorsky C-6; Lockheed: Lindbergh's Sirius, Turner's NC 7954 and Lockheed Model 3 Air Express 'Gilmore Lion;' and a Loening COA-1. There are two photos of the Goodyear airship 'Vigilant' and one photo of the airship 'Los Angeles.' There is also a small scrapbook of newspaper clippings of aircraft disasters near Roosevelt Field and Westbury, Long Island.

This donation consists of Heveran's scrapbook which contains photographs and ephemera. The photographs include images of the following aircraft and aviation scenes: Curtiss H Flying Boat; SPAD XVI and XIII; de Havilland D.H.4; Salmson; Fokker D.VIII; Halberstadt C.II; Royal Aircraft Factory (RAF) S.E.5; power winch for raising a balloon; and images of the 14th Balloon Photo Section members. There are also images of armament, tanks (including a decoy German tank), German artillery and mortar, images of dead German soldiers, and images of the destruction of the French countryside. The scrapbook also includes a map, French and Belgian currency, a Christmas menu, and newspaper articles.
Biographical / Historical:
Glenn Edward Heveran, Sr. (1895-1960) was born in Chicago, Illinois. As a young man he was a commercial photographer and participated in the infant motion picture industry in Chicago. Heveran was inducted into the United States Army in March of 1918. He became a corporal in the 14th Balloon Photo Section, First Army, and was sent to France in August of 1918. When he returned home in 1919, he prepared a scrapbook, containing photographs that he took or collected during his time in France

George Martin Keightley (1889-1967) was a member of the Early Birds of Aviation, Inc. He helped develop the Royal Canadian Air Service in World War I, and when the United States entered the war he returned to the US become an instructor for the Army Signal Corps. In World War II he served on the Civil Aeronautics Board as an air safety investigator.

Biographical / Historical:
William H. Sheahan (1872-1956) first became interested in aviation in 1910 and he spent part of the 1912 and 1913 summers at the Heinrich Aviation School, Hempstead Plains Field (now Roosevelt Field), Long Island. Sheahan soloed in a Heinrich monoplane and later took flying lessons at Curtiss Field, Long Island, during 1920-1922. Sheahan was a member of the Aero Club of Pennsylvania, and was in charge of the Hall of Aviation at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. Sheahan also applied for membership in the Early Birds.

Biographical / Historical:
The Lowe Willard & Fowler (L.W.F.) Engineering Company, located at College Point, New York City, was organized in 1915 for the manufacture of all types of heavier-than-air machines. L.W.F. produced the first all-American aircraft to be used during World War I. In 1917, the first Liberty motor to fly was installed in the L.W.F. Model G, and several of the L.W.F. aircraft held performance records for speed and endurance. The company also completed Government contracts for producing Martin Bombers, Douglas DT-2s, and Naval Observation Planes, before the company dissolved in 1924.

This collection consists of 45 photographs relating to Nichols and the 163rd Aero Squadron. The images include: aerial views of air fields; 2nd Day Bombardment Group photographs and group photographs of the 163rd and the 100th Aero squadrons; wrecked aircraft; air-to-air photographs of aircraft and dirigibles; and ground shots of aircraft, mostly De Havilland DH-4s, and air fields. There is also a photo of the 2nd Day Bombardment Group Insignia.
Biographical / Historical:
Lt. Earle Nichols was part of the 163rd Aero Squadron, which was a De Havilland DH-4 squadron for the 2nd Day Bombardment Group. This Group was organized on 1 November 1918 and was Major George E. Reinburg's first Air Service command at the Front. The group was ready for operations by 9 November but bad weather prevented them from flying any bombing missions before the Armistice.

The 354th Aero Squadron (Observation) was organized at Kelly Field, Texas, on January 28, 1918. The squadron was shipped to France on August 16th, and was eventually stationed at Autreville and Saizerais Airdromes, providing reconnaissance services. William Wallace Innes was a pilot for the 354th Aero Squadron (Observation) during World War I.

This collection includes 49 black and white prints and 19 color snapshots. The color prints are of the Piasecki H-21 and the Boeing-Vertol CH-113 Voyageur. Arthur C. Arendt was a pilot for the U.S. Air Mail Service from August 5, 1920 until April 9, 1921. He was a colleague to Walter H. Stevens, another air mail pilot, who was one of the thirty-four air mail pilots to die in the line of duty when his aircraft caught fire in the air above Pemberville, Ohio, on September 14, 1920. Arendt was later a member of the Air Mail Pioneers organization

This collection consists of 77 copy prints of Luftwaffe and American World War II aircraft, including: Dornier Do 17; Heinkel He 111; Focke-Wulf FW 200; Junkers Ju 88; Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress; Martin B-26 Marauder; Northrop P-61A Black Widow; Douglas A-20 Havoc; and Consolidated B-24 Liberator. There are also a large number of nose art images. The Boeing B-17 aircraft pictured are Eighth Air Force; some Ninth Air Force aircraft are also included.
An additional seven copy prints were added in the Fall of 1997: five of the images were of the Travel Air 2000, and two of the images were of the de Havilland (Airco) D.H.4. The donor also donated several copies of color advertisements for the Northrop P-61.

Manuel Santana Picheco was soldier stationed at Mitchel Field, Long Island after the First World War. During this time, he also worked in the local photography labs of Court Commercial Photography, a now-defunct entity.
