Wilson Garden (Nashville, Tennessee)
United States of America -- Tennessee -- Davidson County -- Nashville
Scope and Contents:
The folder includes worksheets, a short biography of the former property owner, and other information.
General:
Designed around 1966 by Thomas D. Church and Associates, this garden in a wooded setting provided an atmosphere for reflection on and appreciation of its surroundings. Stone walls, terraces, and walkways defined spaces at the front and back of the house as well as the pool area. This hardscaping was complemented by sculpture, green lawns, and seasonal plantings of bulbs, flowering shrubs, and similarly colorful accents. The overall impression was one of openness and simplicity. The property was designated as an arboretum by the Nashville Tree Foundation in 1988.
Persons and firms associated with the garden include Thomas D. Church and Associates (landscape architects, 1966) and David K. and Anne Potter Wilson (former owners).
Related Materials:
Wilson Garden related holdings consist of 1 folder (7 35 mm. slides)

Summary:
The Jacques Joseph Camins films and posters measure 0.5 linear feet and date to circa 1965. The collection is comprised of ten 16 mm motion picture films by Camins, including artists and scenes from Provincetown, Rockport, and Gloucester, Massachusetts, and other unidentified locations. Nine of the reels were compiled into a single reel to transfer to video, including eight color, silent reels containing footage of the Art Students League Summer School in Woodstock, N.Y., Arnold Blanch and his students, Anton Refregier, Marion Greenwood, Howard Mandel, Julio de Diego, N. Dirk, Hans Hofmann, Morris Davidson, George Yeter, Seong Moy, and Karl Knaths. The ninth reel transferred to video contains black and white, silent home movies with family and beach scenes. Biographical / Historical:
Established in 1974 and still active in New York, Artists Talk on Art is the art world's longest running and most prolific aesthetic panel discussion series organized by artists for artists. Founded by Lori Antonacci, Douglas I. Sheer, and Robert Wiegand, the forum has presented 6,000 artists in nearly 1,000 documented panels or dialogues. ATOA held its first panel, "Whatever Happened to Public Art," on January 10, 1975 and it drew a "crowd" of 77 people. In the decades that followed, ATOA presented dozens of panels or dialogues a year, tackling such diverse topics as "What is Happening with Conceptual Art," with Louise Lawler and Lawrence Weiner; "Painting and Photography: Defining the Difference," with Sarah Charlesworth, Jack Goldstein, Joseph Kosuth, Barbara Kruger, and Robert Mapplethorpe; "Organizing Arts Activism," with Lucy Lippard; "The Artist and the Epidemic—an information panel about AIDS"; "Cross-generational Views of Feminism"; and hundreds more.
Provenance:
The Artists Talk on Art (ATOA) records, including digital files of the video and sound recordings, were donated to the Archives in 2016 by Douglas Sheer, Chairman of ATOA.
