Scope and Contents:
Inscription on flyleaf: "I / Journal of / Dr. L.H. Baekeland / Yonkers, NY [sic] / November 21, 1911 / to March 26, 1913." The diary details Baekeland's daily activities. He writes often of his visits and discussions, and the subjects of correspondence he has written and received. It sheds light on the use and distance of travel by automobile in the early twentieth century. In the notes, Baekeland explains increasing time spent in the laboratory at the end of 1911 into 1913.

The Dale-Patterson family papers, which date from 1866 to 1990 and measure 6 linear feet, document the personal and professional lives of the Dale-Patterson family who came to live in Hillsdale, Anacostia, area of Washington, D.C., in 1892. The collection is comprised of correspondence, photographs, clippings, and ephemera.
Arrangement note:
The collection is arranged in four series:

Biographical/Historical note:
The Dale family came to Washington, DC in 1886 when John Henry Dale, Sr., a gifted self-taught man, obtained a position as clerk in the newly contracted Pension Bureau building at 5th and G Streets, NW. First they lived near 13th Street and Florida Avenue, NW, then moved to Howard Road in Anacostia. Dale built a house at 2619 Nichols Avenue, now Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, drawing the plans and supervising the construction. The Dales and only one other family lived in this solidly built house for 100 years before it was sold to a church group and demolished.

Summary:
William Currie was a civil engineer and photographer who worked during the early twentieth century. The photograph album documents irrigation systems in the western United States, sewage systems in Louisville, Kentucky, and work on the Panama Canal.
Scope and Contents:
The album consists of photographs created and collected by civil engineer William Currie. The photographs document three projects from the first decade of twentieth century. The first project is the construction of irrigation systems in the Far West dating approximately from 1904-1907. There are also photographs from a project documenting a sewage system for Louisville, Kentucky in 1909-1910. Lastly, there are photographs of the Panama Canal dating from 1911-1912.

Box one contains forty eight loose photographs from the album and album pages documenting work on irrigation systems in the western United States. Box two includes additional irrigation project photographs and album pages from work on a sewage system in Louisville, Kentucky and work on the Panama Canal. The order created by the donor has been maintained.

This collection is arranged in one series.

The albums were created by William Currie, a civil engineer, but no other information is known about Currie or the acquisition of the collection.
