Mexican Boy: the Story of Pablo

Scope and Contents:
Edited film, produced and distributed for Encyclopedia Britannica Educational Films, tells story of a young Mexican boy and his family who lives in an unidentified village in southeastern Mexico. The boy Pablo wants a pair of shiny new shoes to wear to the feast of the Virgin of Guadelupe. He does a variety of odd jobs to earn the money for the shoes but instead of buying the shoes he gives the money to his mother to pay for medicine for a sick sister. On the day of the feast, at the Shrine of the Virgin of Guadelupe in Mexico City, Pablo gets his shoes. Film includes scenes of a street market and daily activities in rural Mexican village, Pablo with his family in their adobe house,and Pablo and his father and brother herding cattle, picking beans and coffee, harvesting maguey and making adobe brick. Footge also includes scenes of Mexican countryside, outskirts of Mexico City and pilgrims at the Shrine of the Virgin of Guadelupe.
