Subject Files

Collection Collector:
McCormick, Mack  Search this
Type:
Archival materials
Date:
1896-2015, undated
Scope and Contents:
These materials document McCormick's voracious research activities. While mostly known for his blues scholarship, McCormick researched other subjects with nearly the same tenacity. He had an insatiable ambition to make connections between music, cultural characters, folklore, regional speech, race relations, sex, records, film, food, crime statistics, the prison system, geography, consumer tastes, and books. Materials include magazine articles, newspaper clippings, research notes, discographies, and travel materials. These materials are arranged in alphabetical order by McCormick's subject titles. In addition, there are index cards with information relating to magazines, newsletters, United States retailers, catalogs for retailers, American wholesalers, libraries, and clubs.
Collection Restrictions:
Collection is open for research. Access to original materials in boxes 76-80 is prohibited. Researchers must use digital copies.

Additional materials have been removed from public access pending investigation under the Smithsonian Institution's Ethical Returns and Shared Stewardship Policy.
Collection Rights:
Collection items available for reproduction, but the Archives Center makes no guarantees concerning copyright restrictions. Other intellectual property rights may apply. Archives Center cost-recovery and use fees may apply when requesting reproductions.
