Descriptive Entry:
These records were created mostly by administrators Rohlfing, Dobkin, and Dunne. They document the activities of the Museum Advisory Board and the acquisitions committee and contain files on fundraising, membership, product development, sales, education, collections management, and exhibitions. The records also include audit reports and annual reports; grant proposals; architectural plans of the Miller House; and public relations files, including news clippings from the reopening of the Museum in 1976. In addition, the records contain periodic budget projections and reports for the programs, administrative departments, and payroll of the Museum dating from 1983 to 1988, along with the memoranda and spreadsheets which document their development.
Historical Note:
In 1963 the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art trustees announced that the Cooper Union Museum for the Arts of Decoration would be closed, and Director Calvin S. Hathaway resigned. Curator of Exhibitions H. Christian Rohlfing was named Acting Administrator, and in this capacity he helped to guide the Museum's transfer to the Smithsonian Institution in 1968. In 1969 Rohlfing became Administrator of the renamed Cooper-Hewitt Museum, and in fiscal year 1972 he assumed the dual title of Administrator and Curator of Collections. John H. Dobkin became Program Management Officer in FY 1974 and was appointed Administrator in FY 1975. Dobkin and Rohlfing both held the title of Administrator until FY 1978, when Dobkin resigned and Rohlfing relinquished the post to assume purely curatorial responsibilities. The position of Administrator was vacant until FY 1979, when Daniel O'Leary became Assistant Director for Administration and Barbara V. Foss and Peter M. Scherer were appointed Administrative Assistants to the Director. O'Leary left the next year, and Foss was replaced by Chauncie McKeever in FY 1981. In FY 1983 McKeever left, Scherer was appointed Special Assistant to the Director, and Linda Dunne was named Administrator. Scherer left in FY 1984.

Descriptive Entry:
This accession consists of three YouTube accounts maintained by various Smithsonian Institution units, including the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, the Smithsonian Libraries, and the Museum Conservation Institute. The accounts were crawled between March 23 and July 17, 2018. YouTube is a video-sharing service that many museums, research centers, and programmatic offices use for disseminating informational, educational, and promotional videos. Each account was crawled twice, once focusing on the account in general and once focusing on the videos. Due to technical issues, some content may be missing and some features may not function as expected. Materials are in electronic format.

Date:

Introduction:
The Smithsonian Institution Archives (SIA) began its Oral History Program in 1973. The purpose of the program is to supplement the written documentation of the Archives' record and manuscript collections with an Oral History Collection, focusing on the history of the Institution, research by its scholars, and contributions of its staff. Program staff conduct interviews with current and retired Smithsonian staff and others who have made significant contributions to the Institution. There are also reminiscences and interviews recorded by researchers or students on topics related to the history of the Smithsonian or the holdings of the Smithsonian Institution Archives.

The Smithsonian Resident Associates was founded in 1965 to provide its local members a wide range of educational and cultural activities, including classes in the arts, sciences, humanities, and crafts, as well as tours and opportunities for domestic travel. The program was expanded in 1970 with creation of the National Associates along with publication of Smithsonian magazine. From 2005 to 2013, Barbara Tuceling served as director of The Smithsonian Associates (TSA). As she retired in 2013, Tuceling conducted a series of oral history interviews with a wide range of TSA staff members and Smithsonian administrators to document the history of TSA.
Descriptive Entry:
These interviews discuss their careers at TSA, new programs, relationship to the rest of the Smithsonian Institution, notable programs, significant challenges, reminiscences of colleagues, and interaction with the public and staff.

The Smithsonian Associates Oral History Interviews collection is comprised of 22 interview sessions, totaling approximately 19.1 hours of recordings and no transcripts.
Historical Note:
The Smithsonian Associates interviewees include Michael E. Alin, Robert H. Angle, Brigitte Blachere, Carol A. Bogash, Joseph M. Carper, Michael W. Cassidy, Prudence Clendening, Neill Heath, James M. Hobbins, Amy Kotkin, Richard Kurin, Thomas E. Lovejoy, Mara Mayor, David T. Parry, Steve Pike, Ann Post, Crystal Fleary Pruitt, Dennis Smoot, William A. Stewart, Katharine F.
