Scope and Contents:
Letter of March 4 enclosed copy of first map of the Oregon country, made by Indians and copied by Clark (Lewis and Clark) with geographical notes; also a smaller facsimile, and an accurate modern map; newspaper clipping from Wallawalla Union Bulletin, Sunday, January, 1950. Letter of March 7 enclosed Indian map of 1814, and copy with principal geographical features only; a Lewis and Clarke map showing "tracks across the western portion of North America from the Mississippi to the Pacific Ocean, by order of the Executive of the United States in 1804,-5, and-6. Copied Samuel Lewis from the original drawing by W. Clark." Letter of April 5, 1950, enclosed : Indian map and manuscript by Clark, annotated by J. Neilson Barry. ("Kamian Map"); Map of 1814, enlarged; facsimile authentic etching- map of 1814 (various hand copies differ); Indian map manuscript by Clark, annotated by J. Neilson Barry; Indian map with manuscript by Clark, annotated by J. Neilson Barry; only features depicted on the Indian map- modern data for indentification- no Indian map of this region; Clark and Indian map 1806 annotated by J. Neilson Barry- manuscript by Clark.
