Biographical / Historical:
Painter; Albuquerque, N.M. Painted murals for the WPA Federal Art Project and other New Deal art programs. He taught at the University of New Mexico where the Jonson Gallery was erected in his honor, housing the most complete permanent collection of Jonson's work.

Ewing speaks of his background and art training at the Santa Maria School for Art; teaching in New Mexico; his work as a printmaker for the Index of American Design; teaching printmaking to Indians; his feelings about the Federal Art Project (FAP) and about government support for the arts; and his post-FAP career.
