REEL 3752: Twenty-nine letters to Sidney and Rosalie Berkowitz, Bess' friends, from Bess, concerning his work and theories; a 1950 letter to Bess from Lucy Milton of Willard Gallery concerning the painting, "Black Seascape"; a 1950 letter to Betty Parsons from Bess concerning canvases for the Guggenheim; a 1953 letter to Bess from the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center concerning slides of Bess' work; an essay, "Finally, A Bit of Prophecy"; 3 slides of works of art; and a slide of a small wooden building.

Biographical / Historical:
Hershey founded Gallery of Wonderful Things, Fort Worth, Texas in 1956 and turned it over to Electra Carlin in 1958. Carlin moved the gallery and changed the name to Carlin Gallery. Hershey moved to Houston and organized four art shows at the Tall Timbers apartment complex owned by her husband.

REEL 1799: A 17 page biographical sketch of Donald S. Vogel; and exhibition catalogs and invitations from the Valley House Gallery and other galleries.
UNMICROFILMED: 7 cassette tapes of an interview with Clara Williamson, conducted by Vogel, 1964-65. Williamson speaks of her childhood in Iredell, Tex., her paintings, her family, the Bosque Riber, Johnson's Peak, the railroad, her marriage and move to Dallas, Arbor Camp Meeting Salons, and the death of her husband.

Art gallery; Dallas, Tex. Founded in 1951 by painter Donald S. Vogel, who was also the gallery director. The gallery was originally named the Betty McLean Gallery (1951-1954) and subsequently renamed the Valley House Gallery. The gallery exhibited 20th century European and American art.
