These records primarily document the administration of the National Zoological Park (NZP) during the latter part of Theodore H. Reed's tenure as Director. A small amount
of material documents the activities of Reed's successor, Michael H. Robinson. Included are budget records; minutes from meetings; and files concerning NZP collections, exhibitions,
research, staff, and educational programs. Of particular interest are records documenting the renovation of the Small Mammal House and the design of the Great Ape House. The
collection also includes an animal information file containing memoranda and correspondence between NZP and animal dealers, other zoos, and the general public. These files
were created by William M. Mann, Ernest Pillsbury Walker, and J. Lear Grimmer, as well as Reed.
