Scope and Contents:
This series is composed of letters, certificates, and DVDs and includes oversized material. Material relates to Henry Vinton Plummer's military service, his 1894 dishonorable discharge, and his descendants' successful campaign to upgrade it to an honorable discharge. Folder 1 contains an undated letter from Brigadier General Vincent K. Brooks commending Plummer's family on their years of advocacy and commemorating his service as the first African American chaplain of the Regular Army. Folder 2 contains Plummer's framed certificate of honorable discharge, backdated to 1894. Folder 3 contains two DVD copies of "Restoring Honor: The Case of Chaplain Plummer," a 43-minute documentary released in 2005 by Keith B. Plummer that tells the story of Chaplain Plummer's service and his family's campaign to clear his name.
