Scope and Contents:
Subject/Sitter: scenes
Office with four women seated at desks. Three women are writing, whilst the fourth is using a telephone. Two men stand at either side of a desk. There are filling cabinets along the wall and typewriters and calculators on the desks. No ink on negative. Ink on envelope: caption. "KODAK - SAFETY -- FILM" edge imprint. Retouching on faces with New Coccine.
The scene is the Howard School of Dentistry's Dean's office. From left to right it includes: Beatrice G. Jackson, Ms. Jessie D. Gamble (at the telephone), Ms. Margaret E. Johnson (at the center, facing the camera), Mr. Herbert H. Gunn, Jr., Dr. Coleman Reed Tuckson (associate dean of the Dental School, smiling), and Ms. Dortha Bacchus (in the foreground, in front of the men). Identifications by Nia Tuckson, 5/14/2009.

Gloves must be worn when handling unprotected photographs and negatives. Special arrangements required to view negatives due to cold storage. Using negatives requires a three hour waiting period. Contact the Archives Center at 202-633-3270.
Subseries Rights:
When the Museum purchased the collection from the Estate of Robert S. Scurlock, it obtained all rights, including copyright. The earliest photographs in the collection are in the public domain because their term of copyright has expired. The Archives Center will control copyright and the use of the collection for reproduction purposes, which will be handled in accordance with its standard reproduction policy guidelines. Archives Center cost-recovery and use fees may apply when requesting reproductions.
