Four young women standing with A. Phillip Randolph inside Howard University Chapel. He holds a pamphlet with the title, "The First Annual NACO Citizenship Institute". Four women in a kitchen, apparently a classroom. One woman is putting a round cake pan in an oven whilst another is taking items from a table which has packaged goods on it such as flour, eggs and sugar. The third woman is washing dishes in a sink and the fourth is holding a kettle on a burner on a second oven. There is a refrigerator in the kitchen and a periodic chart of the elements the wall. Posed group of five women in party dresses and corsages standing a line behind a dining table. There is a banner across the doorway behind them reading, "101st Anniversary". There is a cake, floral display, and cutlery on the table. Ink on negative: "2". Ink on envelope: caption and "1 glossy ea". "KODAK -- SAFETY -- FILM" edge imprint. Retouching on arms with New Coccine. New Scurlock number.

Gloves must be worn when handling unprotected photographs and negatives. Special arrangements required to view negatives due to cold storage. Using negatives requires a three hour waiting period. Contact the Archives Center at 202-633-3270.

When the Museum purchased the collection from the Estate of Robert S. Scurlock, it obtained all rights, including copyright. The earliest photographs in the collection are in the public domain because their term of copyright has expired. The Archives Center will control copyright and the use of the collection for reproduction purposes, which will be handled in accordance with its standard reproduction policy guidelines. Archives Center cost-recovery and use fees may apply when requesting reproductions.
