CDR copy FW-ASCH-7RR-0847 contains a reading of a prose work of Walt Whitman, about the sea, entitled Sea-Shore Fancies, contained in a book of Whitman's works published in 1892. The reader is not identified. Actual sounds of the sea are included. This particular prose work isn't included in the Folkways record of Walt Whitman's works. The beginning of this work, perhaps an additional take by the same reader, can be heard on FW-ASCH-7RR-0850. The label on the -0847 tape box says, "Whitman; Mix of Best of RI." However, the only thing on the tape is the Whitman selection described above; perhaps "R.I." is the reader.) No other information is provided.

FW-ASCH-7RR-1444 contains a short dramatic reading, about an American volunteer in the Spanish Civil War. Probably, it is a reading from the novel, "For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Ernest Hemingway. Told in the first person, the speaker is rather bitter and sad about the loss of Spain to the fascist generals, but he is ultimately confident that fascism will eventually be defeated. During the Spanish Civil War, Hemingway was a reporter in Spain. The back of the tape box says, "Hemingway" and "transfer from 13" 78 rpm. Apparently, the recording was not used by Folkways. The reader is not identified and further information isn't provided.

FW-ASCH-7RR-2330 contains two short stories read by David Kurlan. Although Mr. Kurlan - a radio performer and legitimate stage actor - read Bret Harte stories on a Folkways Record, the stories on this tape weren't used on any Folkways Record. The two short stories are: The Lady or the Tiger, by Frank Stockton; and the Boy Who Drew Cats, a traditional Japanese Folk Tale, translated by Lafcadio Hearn.
