Video Title:
ACMA AV000957 Lou Stovall Film
Description:
Artist Lou Stovall demonstrates silkscreen printing in his Washington, DC studio. In this short documentary, Stovall draws one of his signature circular landscapes and, assisted by Leah Gilliam and Allison Sheehy, transforms it into a colorful print, using his innovations that elevated silkscreen printing from a commercial process to a fine art. The Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum created the film as part of its exhibition, “Through Their Eyes: The Art of Lou and Di Stovall” (September 18, 1983 to March 4, 1984). The Stovalls’ studio, Workshop, Inc., designed and printed the exhibition poster, which features the print made in the film, “Mornings with Will.”
