アメリカ・ワシントンDCのスミソニアン博物館群のひとつである国立アジア美術館（フリーア美術館、アーサー・M・サックラー・ギャラリー）で、開催していた、同館の世界有数の北斎肉筆画コレクションを一挙に公開する「画狂北斎展」。現在、新型コロナウイルスの影響により休館中ですが、本展を記念して、日米を結んでのオンラインでのトークイベントを開催します。 すみだ北斎美術館で現在展示されている、フリーア美術館所蔵の高精細複製による北斎作品を前に、日本からはアートテラーとに〜さんと、渡邉晃さん（太田記念美術館学芸員）、現地ワシントンDCからは、本展のキュレーターであるフランク・フェルテンズ博士の三者をつなぎ、北斎の魅力と謎について楽しく語ります。 // The Freer Gallery of Art, of the Smithsonian's National Museum of Asian Art, is home to the world’s largest collection of Hokusai’s paintings, sketches, and drawings. A significant portion of these works is shown in the exhibition "Hokusai: Mad About Painting". This event was hosted on August 16, 2020 as a gesture of friendship between Japan and the United States, and to celebrate the exhibition (which is currently closed) at Sumida Hokusai Museum in Tokyo. The Freer and Sackler and the Sumida Hokusai Museum collaborated in 2018 with Canon, Inc. and the Tsuzuri Project to produce 13 high-level facsimiles of important paintings by Hokusai in the Freer collection. Art Teller Tony met with curators Watanabe Akira (Ōta Memorial Museum, Tokyo) and Dr. Frank Feltens (Freer and Sackler) to discuss Hokusai’s international fame.
