Video Title:
Director's Discussion with Steve Inskeep
Description:
Kevin Gover (Pawnee), Director of the National Museum of the American Indian, has an engaging discussion with Steve Inskeep, host of NPR’s Morning Edition and the author of Jacksonland, a history of President Andrew Jackson’s long-running conflict with John Ross, a Cherokee chief who resisted the removal of Indians from the eastern United States in the 1830s. Their discussion relates not only to the subject of Inskeep's book, but also the museum's major exhibit, Americans, that also deals with the history of Indian removal and the Trail of Tears. They identify interesting connections between the politics and social conditions of Jackson's American and today's. They also respond to questions from the audience. This program was webcast and recorded in the Rasmuson Theater of the National Museum of the American Indian on November 15, 2018.
