Video Title:
Ben Cerveny on Planetary
Description:
Hear interaction designer Ben Cerveny talk about the Planetary app (0:01), the early days of iPad (2:10), understanding big data (2:57), possibilities for re-purposing Plantetary (3:49), and the future of interaction design (4:33). In August 2013, Cooper Hewitt acquired Planetary, for its permanent collection along with the underlying source code. Released in 2011, Planetary uses the visual metaphor of celestial bodies to represent the relationship between artists (stars), albums (planets) and tracks/songs (moons). Planetary represents an important branch of interactive data visualization, which was a first in the consumer marketplace. The code has been freely released by Cooper Hewitt to enable developers to build upon and incorporate it into other software design.
