This symposium was presented in conjunction with the exhibition "Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture." James Boaden is a lecturer in the history of art at the University of York, UK. He is an external adviser on the project ―"Surrealism and Sexuality "at the University of Manchester—for which he has organized the conferences The Convulsive Nursery: Surrealism and Childhood Sexuality and Sexuality and the Surrealist Sensorium, both in 2010.
